Clinical inputs
Allowed range: 40–300 mmHg
Below 100 mm Hg meets this criterion. 100 does not.
Allowed range: 50–100 %
Below 90% meets this criterion. 90% does not.
Allowed range: 0–80 /min
30 breaths per minute or more meets this criterion. 29 does not.
Allowed range: 20–250 bpm
110 beats per minute or more meets this criterion. 109 does not.
Allowed range: 0–2000 ×10⁹/L
Below 50,000 per microlitre meets the bleeding criterion. 50,000 does not.
Allowed range: 0–4 class
The intermediate exception needs a status below 2. A status of 2 does not qualify.

Carmona-Bayonas A et al. Predicting serious complications in patients with cancer and pulmonary embolism using decision tree modelling. Br J Cancer. DOI: 10.1038/bjc.2017.48. PMID: 28267709. The decision rule is positive for systolic pressure below 100 mm Hg, saturation below 90%, respiratory rate of 30 or more, pulse of 110 or more, sudden or progressive dyspnoea, or clinically relevant bleeding, a high bleeding risk, or platelets below 50,000. Low risk requires no rule criterion and a controlled or resected primary tumour. Intermediate risk is a positive rule with ECOG below 2 and no pulmonary-embolism-specific symptoms, or no rule criterion with an uncontrolled or unevaluated unresected tumour. Other positive-rule patients are high risk. 15-day mortality was 0.3%, 6.1%, and 17.1%. (2017)
