PMID: 38066846. When device software is not available, the red-cell volume to exchange is 1.5 times the patient's red-cell volume. For children who are not neonates or infants and who are not obese, blood volume is 70 mL/kg and red-cell volume is that blood volume times the hematocrit. The printed example is a 30 kg child with hematocrit 25%: blood volume 2100 mL, red-cell volume 525 mL, and 1.5 times that volume 787.5 mL. (2023)
