Clinical inputs

lb

Allowed range: 2.2–551.16 lb

Quick picks

The formula divides by the recipient's weight, not the donor's.

cells/µL

Allowed range: 0–2000 cells/µL

Quick picks

Pre-apheresis CD34+ cells per microlitre of donor blood.

L

Allowed range: 1–40 L

Quick picks

Litres processed in the apheresis session. The published formula uses a fixed collection efficiency of 0.43.

Validation of a formula predictive of peripheral blood stem cell yield and successful collection in healthy allogeneic donors. Hematol Transfus Cell Ther. 2020;42(2). DOI: 10.1016/j.htct.2019.04.004. PMID: 31439517. Abstract formula: total CD34+ yield (cells x10^6/kg) = [(peripheral CD34+ cells/µL) x (0.43) / recipient body weight (kg)] x total litres processed, where 0.43 is the study's median collection efficiency coefficient (the introduction notes it varies from 30% to 50% by leukapheresis processor; the published formula fixes it at 0.43 and so does this tool). A successful collection was defined as at least 4 x10^6 CD34+ cells/kg in one apheresis session. Predicted and observed yields correlated with r = 0.775 in 338 collections from 307 donors. (2020)
