Chow E et al. Predictive model for survival in patients with advanced cancer. J Clin Oncol. DOI: 10.1200/JCO.2008.17.1363. PMID: 19018082. The recommended model counts three risk factors: nonbreast primary cancer, metastases other than bone only, and Karnofsky performance status of 60 or lower. Group 1 is 0 or 1 factor, group 2 is 2 factors, and group 3 is 3 factors. Table 3 temporal validation median survival was 55, 19, and 9 weeks. Training medians were 60, 26, and 9 weeks, and external medians were 64, 28, and 10 weeks. Table 2 partial scores, shown on the score line, are breast 0, prostate 2, lung 3, and other primary sites 3; bone-only metastases 0 and any other pattern 2; Karnofsky performance status above 60 is 0 and 60 or lower is 3. Partial-score groups are 0–4, 5, and 6–8. The returned number is the risk-factor count the authors recommend. (2008)
