Pediatric Fibrosis Score, Continuous (pFIB-c) calculator

Enter the published formula inputs below to calculate and interpret this score.

Clinical inputs

Sex
Hypertension

Count hypertension when systolic or diastolic pressure is at or above the 95th percentile for age, sex, and height, or when systolic pressure is at least 130 mm Hg or diastolic pressure is at least 80 mm Hg.

Black ethnicity
U/L

Allowed range: 1–2000 U/L

Quick picks

Enter ALT in U/L, the unit used in the regression.

z

Allowed range: -5–8 z

Weight z-score from the reference the clinician already uses. A value of 2 is two standard deviations above the reference mean.

index

Allowed range: 0.1–40 index

Quick picks

HOMA-IR = fasting insulin in mIU/L times fasting glucose in mg/dL, divided by 405.

The continuous score is the logistic probability e^x/(1+e^x), where x = −5.155 + 1.194×sex (boy = 1) + 1.636×hypertension + 0.019×ALT (U/L) + 0.633×weight z-score + 0.079×HOMA-IR − 2.453×black ethnicity. HOMA-IR = fasting insulin (mIU/L) × fasting glucose (mg/dL) / 405. The displayed number is that probability in percent, rounded to one decimal, so 22.6% is probability 0.226 and 22.7% is the first displayed value above it. In the derivation cohort the cutoff above 0.226 had sensitivity 84.4% and negative predictive value 91.2% for significant fibrosis. A higher cutoff above 0.277 was examined for advanced fibrosis.
