RISK-E Score for Surgery in Active Left-Sided Endocarditis calculator
Enter the published formula inputs below to calculate and interpret this score.
Clinical inputs
Allowed range: 18–110 years
51 years or younger scores 0, 52–63 scores 9, 64–72 scores 13, and 73 or older scores 14.
Allowed range: 1–1000 ×10⁹/L
Under 150 × 10³/µL scores 7. 150 does not. ×10⁹/L uses the same number.

Olmos C et al. Risk score for cardiac surgery in active left-sided infective endocarditis. Heart. DOI: 10.1136/heartjnl-2016-311093. PMID: 28432158. Table 3 points: age 51 years or younger 0, 52–63 years 9, 64–72 years 13, 73 years or older 14; prosthetic endocarditis 6; Staphylococcus aureus or fungi 9; septic shock 7; platelet count under 150 × 10³/µL 7; acute renal insufficiency 5; cardiogenic shock 15; periannular complications 5. Periannular complications are abscess, pseudoaneurysm, fistula, or prosthetic dehiscence. The printed example is a 60-year-old man with prosthetic-valve endocarditis due to Staphylococcus aureus and acute renal insufficiency: 9 + 6 + 9 + 5 = 29. The same table states a predicted mortality of 39.6% at 29 points. The text states 3% at 0 points and 97% at 68 points. Those percents come from a second regression on the integer score whose intercept and slope are not printed, so the result here is the integer score. (2017)
