Kharbanda AB et al. Development and Validation of a Novel Pediatric Appendicitis Risk Calculator (pARC). Pediatrics. DOI: 10.1542/peds.2017-2699. PMID: 29535251. Logit = −8.7 + male 1.28 + age 5–7.9 years 0.38 + male and age 5–7.9 years −1.05 + age 8–13.9 years −0.72, with male 14–18 years and female 12–18 years as the reference. Pain 24 to under 48 hours adds 0.47 and 48–96 hours adds 0.10. Pain with walking adds 1.05, migration to the right lower quadrant adds 0.46, maximal tenderness there adds 1.14, and guarding adds 0.67. Absolute neutrophil count below 14 ×10^3/µL adds 1.77 × square root of that count; at 14 or above, add the constant 6.62. Risk percent is 100 / (1 + e^(−logit)). The paper strata are under 5%, 5–14%, 15–24%, 25–49%, 50–74%, 75–84%, and 85% or higher. (2018)
