Primary source

Streck CJ et al. Identifying children at very low risk for blunt intra-abdominal injury in whom CT of the abdomen can be avoided safely. J Am Coll Surg. DOI: 10.1016/j.jamcollsurg.2016.12.041. PMID: 28130170. The derived rule, in descending order, is aspartate aminotransferase above 200 U/L, an abnormal abdominal examination, an abnormal chest radiograph, a report of abdominal pain, and abnormal pancreatic enzymes. Negative predictive value was 99.4% for any intra-abdominal injury and 100.0% for injury needing acute intervention when none of the five variables were present. The very-low-risk group was 34% of 2,188 children. (2017)
