Modified RECIST for Hepatocellular Carcinoma calculator
Enter the published formula inputs below to calculate and interpret this score.
Clinical inputs
Allowed range: 0.04–15.75 in
Enter centimeters of the longest viable, arterially enhancing tumor. Atypical non-enhancing or extrahepatic disease uses the longest overall diameter. Zero means arterial enhancement has disappeared.
Allowed range: 0–15.75 in
Progression uses at least a 20% increase from this smallest viable sum, including the baseline if that remains the smallest.

Lencioni R, Llovet JM. Modified RECIST (mRECIST) assessment for hepatocellular carcinoma. Semin Liver Dis. DOI: 10.1055/s-0030-1247132. PMID: 20175033. Target response uses the sum of viable arterial-phase diameters: disappearance of intratumoral arterial enhancement is complete response; at least a 30% decrease from the baseline sum is partial response; at least a 20% increase from the smallest sum recorded since treatment started is progressive disease; other results are stable disease. When both the 20% increase and the 30% decrease are met, progressive disease is assigned because that definition is met and Table 3 maps target progression to overall progression. Nontarget complete response is disappearance of intratumoral arterial enhancement; persistence of enhancement is incomplete response or stable disease; unequivocal nontarget progression is progressive disease. A new lesion declares progression. Table 3: target complete plus nontarget complete and no new lesion is complete response; target complete plus nontarget incomplete response or stable disease and no new lesion is partial response; target partial plus nontarget non-progression and no new lesion is partial response; target stable plus nontarget non-progression and no new lesion is stable disease; target progression, nontarget progression, or a new lesion is progressive disease. Reported as 0, 1, 2, and 3. If no nontarget lesion was recorded, the nontarget category is treated as complete response. (2010)
