Bell JA, Campos C, Moureau N. Validation and Reliability of the Comprehensive Difficult IV Access Scoring Tool. Int J Nurs Health Care Res. DOI: 10.29011/2688-9501.101414. Figure 1 gives 0, 1, or 2 points for veins that can be seen, veins that can be felt, earlier access difficulty, and clinical urgency. The total runs from 0 to 8. The figure ranks 0–3 as low, 4–5 as medium, and 6–8 as high. In the inter-rater exercise a designed total of 5 was moderate difficulty, with a suggestion to consider ultrasound, and an average of 7 was read as high risk. (2023)
